Singh has created an extraordinary world, with angels, vampires and humans coexisting with full awareness of each other. The two main characters, Elena and Raphael, are two very intriguing characters, he mysterious and layered and she fearless and complex. The power struggles between the Archangels are frought with delicious tension and hidden agendas and the roles of the vampires are yet to be fully disclosed. My one issue with the story is actually the interplay between Elena and Raphael. Elena's dialogue with Raphael seemed immature and was annoying. I understood her efforts to maintain her independence and sense of self but she just came across as childish so often. I think this world is extremely complex with ulterior motives at the forefront for so many of the main characters. It will be interesting to see how this all unfolds in future books in the series, even the new foundation for Raphael and Elena's relationship. I'm in for the long haul.
