Paul Haggerty has been in love with Vanessa Booth since the day he met her but allowed his best friend, Matt Rutledge, make the first move and that was the end. Matt married Vanessa and went off to war and was killed, with Vanessa due to give birth shortly. Paul provided his shoulders and support to her in both of their grief but he doesn't want to move too quickly and take advantage of Vanessa. His slowness on the uptake threatens to have him again standing in someone else's wake. While this is Paul and Vanessa's story, this book returns us to all we've loved about the series. Old characters return with a vengeance with so many story lines you will struggle to keep up, which is a great thing. Babies are being made and born, new relationships are beginning, new properties are being built and old and new characters return to Virgin River. It was a wonderful immersion in the community of Virgin River and I hated to see the book end.
